ipie and the Online Bake Sale for Japan!: UPDATE

***update! we made more than $8,000! Thank you everyone! And high bid on ipies was $110! Thank you thank you! Pie people are very special people!***

In Indiana where I grew up , baking was often the language we used to communicate with each other.

Owe someone an apology? Bake them brownies. Someone you know not feeling so well -- a nice pudding would make them feel better. New job? Baby announcement? Almost any occasion called for hauling out the mixing bowls and butter.

And now, if only I could bake ipies for the people of Japan to feed their hunger and their souls I would do it.

I can't of course but perhaps indirectly I can make it happen.

Well, you can.

ipie is teaming up with a growing list of food bloggers to raise money for Japan via an online bake sale.

The auction is the brain child of Sabrina Modelle who writes the tomato tart blog.

The bake sale will be held, auction style, on her website on March 30th. We will be donating to Second Harvest Japan, a food bank in Japan.

Sabrina has a list of participating food bloggers on her site. Although the auction doesn't start until March 30 -- Sabrina will be previewing what will be available.

So, please check out her site and on March 30, please bid on ipies or some other yummy goodie.

Here is more information about ipie and what I will be offering for the auction:

ipie will offer six ipies with either a classic apple filling or a pear honey filling.

An ipie is an individual fruit filled double crust pie about the size of a cupcake. I sell my ipies at the Palo Alto Farmers' Market and by special order.

I can't ship out of my local area but I would be happy to deliver them to you if you live in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Please email me if you have any questions -- an email link follows the ipie photo.

National Pie (ipie!) Day!

I so miss being at the Palo Alto Farmers' Market so I was happy to get back into the kitchen to bake ipies in honor of National Pie Day this past Sunday, January 23.

I baked 24 ipies and packed them into my mini cooper for delivery.

It was a sunny, warm day and it was a lot of fun to commit random acts of ipie!

I tried to choose pie lovers that had not yet tasted an ipie but there were a few people that I felt needed a bit of a smile so they got an ipie as well!

Remember, pie is optimistic so eat more pie!

ipie at Palo Alto Farmers' Market Saturday, October 30

"Each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere. He's gotta pick this one. He's got to. I don't see how a pumpkin patch can be more sincere than this one. You can look around and there's not a sign of hypocrisy. Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see."
Linus Van Pelt, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

ipie and Oprah!

Ok, I guess it is time for the official announcement on theipiestore!

ipie will be featured in the November issue of
O Magazine which appears to already be on some newsstands but will officially be on newsstands October 12!

The day after I was interviewed by a writer for O Magazine, I attended the Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco. I was lucky enough once again to chat with the talented poet, Silvi Alcivar, founder of the poetry store, who had a booth set up to pen her poems for the masses.

Give Silvi a word and she will pen a poem on the spot using her trusty manual typewriter.

A poem about (of course) pie was featured on this site in February 2010. I told her about the O Magazine opportunity and she was nice enough to once again use her creative juices on behalf of ipie.

Enjoy!

ipie for O

why do i pie? because you want to take big optimistic bites out of flakey crusts and perfectly ripe peaches, blackberries, apples, cherries, and pear-honey, because when life is as ripe and delicious as this slice, you have to just take another slice, plate it up, stick a fork in it, and pass it along.

Now, this, I know for sure.

ipie at Palo Alto Market Saturday, October 2!

Hello ipie fans!
